History of Hochheim Prairie Insurance

As the dawn of the 1890s reached down to touch the rolling, blackland prairies of rural south central Texas, the eyes of Hochheim were set firmly on the hope and the promise of a new century. After final shots of the Civil War had faded, German pioneers journeyed to the rich farmlands, following the bold footsteps of Valentin Hoch, who had been plowing the fields since the 1840s. While still living in Germany, Hoch had purchased 45.5 acres on a prairie he had never seen, a patch of ground where he would sow his dreams, as well as his seeds. He boarded the ship Everhard for the long voyage across a turbulent sea, coming ashore at Indianola and pointing his wagons west. A friend, August Weig, helped him build a home and the traces of a new community began to develop around Hoch's farmstead. It was called Hochheim, meaning "Home of the Hochs." Hochheim is a vital part of the community. After all, we call it home, too. One way to give back to the community is through the Hochheim Prairie Insurance parade float. This beautiful float travels all over the state each year to participate in local parades. It has won countless awards and has spread good will across Texas for years.

There is no cost to the member, branch or agent, other than providing a few smiling riders. Hochheim provides the float, the truck and a driver. But reserve early - the float is in high demand. Contact the Marketing Department at 1-800-222-4736 or e-mail Hochheim Prairie Insurance to reserve the float for your town's parade.
